第248回TOEIC Listening & Reading公開テスト
試験日： 2020年 3月 8日（日）

本日申し込みました。
この１年ほど、あまりTOEICの勉強をしてませんでしたが、今日から３ヶ月間、TOEIC800点超えに向けて頑張ります。

再びBostonのMore Than A Feelingです。
２番目の歌詞で次のものがあります。

So many people have come and gone
Their faces fade as the years go by
Yet I still recall as I wander on
As clear as the sun in the summer sky

この中の"Yet I still recall as I wander on"の"on"が気になります。
色々と調べましたが、"wander on"という表現が他に見つかりません。
意味上の表現でもおかしいような気がしてます。
で、よく曲を聴いて気づいたのですが、これは"on"ではなく"alone"なのではないか。
"I wander alone"なら意味がつながります。また、上の"gone"とも韻を踏んでいるのでこれではないかと。

再びBostonの名曲を取り上げます。
Don't Look Backの歌詞をサイトで検索すると、次の部分が気になります。
ギターソロの直前の歌詞です。

Oh, the sun is shinin' and I'm on that road

大体上記の通り、"and I'm on that road"となっているのですが、私の耳には、"and I wanna go"と聞こえます。それで、また色々と検索かけてみました。次のサイトを見つけました。

Oh the sun is shinin' *and I wanna go*

やっぱり上記の通り、"and I wanna go"と言っているようです。

※"and I'm on that road"と歌っているLiveもYoutubeにありました。

で、もう一ヶ所の歌詞。

I can see
It took so long just to realize
I'm much too strong
Not to compromise
Now I see what I am is holding me down
I'll turn it around, oh yes I will

このcompromiseの部分が聞き取れません。
また次の箇所の"Now I see what I am is holding me down"ですが、"what I am"のところが怪しくて、"is holding me down"ではなく、"It's holding me down"に聞こえるのですが、いかがでしょう？"what I am is holding me down"では意味がおかしいと思うですが。
とりあえず、"Now I see what I am.  It's holding me down"ではないかと。

★仮説★
"Now I see what I am.  It's holding me down"のところが、やっぱり納得できません。
次のはどうでしょうか？

気づくのにずいぶん時間がかかったけど今はわかる
自分が強すぎて妥協できないのだと
今やっとお前の嘘がわかったよ

それをひっくり返してやる
ああ、やってみせるよ
